Birmingham Rag Market – who's in?

Hello friends, I have an indecent proposal for you today!

Fancy joining me and fellow Leicester blogger, Kat, for a day of unimaginable fun at the Birmingham Rag Market on Saturday 3 November? I know a lot of you are starting to plan your autumn/winter sewing and some of you are even hoping to sew Christmas gifts, so it'll be a chance to snap up some supplies cheaply.

For those of you already contemplating travel logistics, you just need to get to Birmingham New Street where we'd all meet and the market is just a short walk away.

Kat and I will happily organise the outing in full, so for now it would be really helpful to get an idea of who would like to come. So please leave a comment below and don't forget to include an email address if it's not listed on your blog.

If you need convincing, look no further! Have you ever seen two happier bloggers than Winnie and Catherine? The picture was taken on our little trip to said market back in May and if you check out my post about the day, you'll understand exactly why we were all so giddy!

P.S. I realise the irony of organising a trip like this after my stash busting post, but I'm not going for the fabric! I'm just going for the pleasure of your company of course ;o)

  4. I'd love to come! I've been to the rag market before but didn't have a lot of luck - think I might need some pro's to show me how it's done!

    1. Fab, I hope you have better luck this time! The thing with the rag market is that it's not necessarily the best for quality, but you can find some decent stuff for very good prices ;o)

  6. This sounds like so much fun, I love blogger meet ups!

I think it's achievable for me to get to Birmingham and back in a day from Glasgow so please keep me in mind for the next Birmingham meet up as it's ideal for me to have 2 or 3 months notice so I can get a train that isn't super-expensive. Sadly not very 'spur of the moment' but if you're thinking of any meet ups next year do let me know!

Loook forward to seeing your review of the day x

    1. Ooooh, I'm so sorry Kerry! I really wish I'd put this idea out there earlier as I'd love to meet you! It just means we'll have to do another one in the new year and I'll give you plenty of notice! I'm actually so impressed that you would come all this way ;o)

    2. Don't worry, I could probably do without the temptation to buy any more fabric just now! :) But next year sounds great!

  8. Yeah, yeah, like, we believe you. Thankfully, there will be witnesses there, to tell us what you did (not) buy!
Let's just say that the stash-busting post never existed. And, if by any chance, you don't buy any fabric for you after all, buy it instead of me (like I was there)! I'll justify the action, OK?
Oh, I wish I could come!

  13. Woo wonderful idea, can I come please? I've always been so envious of these gettogethers, so was delighted that I can actually make it to this one! I shall bring some patterns etc that I no longer want with me too so I can participate in the "exchange programme" :D

Thank you for suggesting it Marie!

  16. Hi Marie, I'm looking to book my train tickets from London in advance - do you have a rough idea re: the meet-up time at Birmingham New Street station please? I can then sort myself out with the right train times :)
    Cheers,
    Claire

  20. Hi just got back into the sewing thing which was triggered just by reading all your blogs - thank you all for the inspiration. I have lots of vintage pattern fabrics stashed but really looking for basic plains for work clothes. Have a few 60's (very Mad Men)/70's vintage patterns too which I'll gladly bring along (don't suit my body type). Not been to Birmingham market for a long time let me know further details.

  23. Doh, I can't make it on that day (which sucks as I actually live in Birmingham!)- but you guys should definitely check out the Fancy Silk Store and Barry's Fabrics, which are just round the corner from the Rag Market- they have a massive selection, and I find the quality is a bit better than the raggy too :)
